Blepharoplasty 101: Everything you need to know about a Blepharoplasty

BLEPHAROPLASTY

As we age, you may begin to notice excess skin, fat deposits or the upper eyelids may begin to sag.

In this blog post, we'll be exploring everything about Blepharoplasty from what it is, how a Blepharoplasty procedure is performed as well as the risks and recovery associated with blepharoplasty procedures.

What is a BLEPHAROPLASTY?

At Inigo Cosmetic, our cosmetic doctors perform the upper blepharoplasty procedure.

Upper Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at altering the appearance of the upper eyelids by surgically removing excess skin on the eyelids.

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to address :

  • Excess Skin: The most common issue is excess skin that hangs over the upper eyelid, potentially impairing vision

  • Fat Deposits: Some individuals develop fat deposits in their upper eyelids, creating a puffy or swollen look.

  • Eyelids: An altered eyelid appearance can sometimes be attributed to weakened eyelid muscles.

What are the benefits of a Blepharoplasty?

An upper Blepharoplasty is designed:

  • Address the upper Eyelids: Upper blepharoplasty can address excess skin, fat, and muscle laxity that causes changes to the upper eyelids.

  • Altered eye Shape: Upper Blepharoplasty may alter the overall shape and contour of the upper eyelid.

  • Widening of the Visual Field: For some individuals with severe eyelid sagging, an upper blepharoplasty can alleviate vision obstruction, leading to an improved field of vision.

  • Open up the eyes: Upper blepharoplasty may open up the eyes

What does a Blepharoplasty procedure involve?

Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure which can be performed under local or general anaesthesia. The Blepharoplasty procedure involves the following:

  • Incisions: Dr Ian Chinsee will make an incision in the natural creases of the upper eyelids

  • Tissue Adjustment: Excess skin is removed, and any protruding fat deposits may be repositioned or removed.

  • Muscle Tightening: If necessary, the underlying muscles are tightened

  • Suture Closure: The incisions are closed with sutures

What to expect following a Blepharoplasty?

Recovery is an essential aspect of any surgical procedure, and upper blepharoplasty
is no exception. While individual experiences may vary, here are some general
guidelines:

  • Swelling and Bruising: Expect some swelling and bruising around the eyes, but this should subside within a few days to a week.

  • Rest and Ice: Get plenty of rest, and applying cold compresses can help reduce swelling and discomfort.

  • Suture Removal: Sutures are typically removed within one week after the
    procedure.

  • Resuming Activities: Most patients can return to their daily activities within a week, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few weeks
